The ceremony is about to begin. The entertainment for this evening is not new, you’ve seen this entertainment through and through, you have seen your birth, your life, your death….you may recall all the rest. Did you have a good world when you died? Enough to base a movie on??”
Jim Morrison/William S. Burroughs
Wow…what a pompous beginning for a first post! I wanted to start with something cool…
Now, let’s get straight to the point… I started this blog because I am going to begin a long trip soon.
I will be walking about (I like the Aboriginal expression) for 5 months and I wanted to keep people, friends and family updated, even if they (the family) don’t understand a thing of what I am writing; all my hopes are in Valentina’s hands and in her good marks in English!
The trip description is up here somewhere in the blog, don’t ask me where…I’m still getting familiar with this stuff, so please forgive me if any of you folks, won’t find “there” what I tell you is “right there”…it could be there, it could be somewhere else…
I’ve been quite busy organising this thing, and I still am… I am sure my sister, my brother-in-law, my nieces and even Lucky, the dog, are asking themselves what the hell am I doing all day sitting here, taking only a few moments off when is breakfast, lunch and dinner time and facing a laptop, cursing on myself, with a sort of weird look like if I was witness of some strange hallucination!
Well, someone said that every trip starts the right moment you think about the trip itself, and that wise guy was right…I haven’t stopped one moment to think about the trip since I decided I was gonna do it!
And thinking about a trip imply so many things directly proportioned to the length of it and to its peculiarity.
The fact that I will be walking for 3.200 kilometres, that I will cross 4 countries, that I will start on winter and arrive, if everything goes right, in summer, that I need to find hospitality rather than stay in hostels, because I have a very limited budget, that I must calculate the length of every stage and time it, that I must fit stages with people availability trying to be in the right place at the right time, that I will probably have friends walking with me at some stage…
If only I knew before about it… naah…I am sure that, somewhere deep inside, I already knew before it was gonna be tough to organise everything, and I don’t regret I’ve thrown myself into this insane idea!
Now the plan seems to have a defined form…even if today, when I was playing with Google Earth, I found a GPS track leading from Santiago to Lisboa…and if you were here, you could have seen the sparkle of madness into my eyes and guess something…anyway…we’ll see… At the moment the route is the one I decided, I can always change it (cut, paste and copy) on the way!
Now the last thing I must sort out is trying to get a sponsor; I don’t need much…a good pair of trekking shoes, a tent, an inflatable mattress should do, then if I’ll also manage to get a camera and a mobile and some extra cash I will consider myself satisfied!
If not I will rob a bank on the way! I already see myself running up the hills of Tuscany on the way to Radicofani with the carabinieri behind me…hahaha…
Ok, I must be tired because I am ranting and raving, so I let you go to your destiny for now!
But you will come back to check if this insane project keeps going!

Ciao Alberto

Good luck and take care.
Maria
Maria!
Muchas gracias!
I am so happy for your comment!
First because I haven’t heard from you since looooong time!
How are you? How is everything going in the fair city? I miss you and everybody in Dublin so much…now there is this new “adventure” waiting for me…but I might come back for a visit when I get tired of walking…jajaja…even Forrest Gump stopped running one day!
And I am also happy because you are the first one on the English version of the blog to leave a comment!
I was a bit disappointed because the Italian blog is a bit more popular so far…and it’s frustrating if nobody read me…I know I am not a great story teller, and until I don’t leave I don’t have much to tell, and this is a kind of traveller’s diary more than a blog, but I’ll need a bit of moral support, so it’s good to know at least you are there reading!
Thank you Maria! Eres un amiga especial!
Many kisses and please give my greetings to everyone I know!
Talk to you soon again!
PS: I “carped” the diem…hahaha…

Ciao Marge, Mark little Jack.
I am getting on well, especially because I am on a break at home 🙂
I needed to organize a few things and find more founding before keeping going on to Switzerland, so I as walked to the northern border of Tuscany with Liguria, I got a lift at home and I took a few days off.
I’ll start again from where I stopped when I am ready.
Also my camera broke down in Tuscany, and I hate going without having the chance to take a pic, I need to do it, otherwise I’ll forget what I saw…
Hope you are all well, keep following me and please, share the blog’s link with everyone you know!
See you soon again!
